I am scheduled to go to the Plymouth Academy on 12/10/07. I am trying to figure out if it is going to start on time or go on float status. I heard that Marshfield is sending 8 guys and I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this academy.

Posted by: jyanis

You will not know whether or not it will start on time until 11/10/2007. If they have 40 recruits on that day, it will start on time. If not it will go on float.

Posted by: CrazyTexan

I am not sure if the academy is still on, I am supposed to be in it too. I have a friend in Marshfield and they are sending 7 or 8 guys. I am on the the Cape and I know of at least 5 guys from down here going. Guess we'll see on 11/10.

Posted by: 94c

December 10th is not going to happen. They need to fill 40 seats and are lucky if they reached the half-way point. The new list is getting certified on Nov.1st and some departments are holding off.

A birdie told me that the beginning of 2008 is more likely.

that birdy is loud =] im sayin mid jan or early feb.

Are your guys going to be ready for the tenth?

Posted by: NBPD

doubt it, pulling off the new list as well.

Posted by: Chief Wiggins

I heard Westport PD is sending a female to this class. From what I hear the guys over there are not to pleased with her. It's not that she is a women but, she is young, I believe early 20's, somewhat immature, and believes she already is in the know. After a few instances both on the street, and in the station a couple of the veteran officers sat her down to give her a heads up. According to these guys, she blew them off, and everyone has already given up on her, and hopes she does not make it. Sounds like the cadre/recruits are going to have their hands full!!

Posted by: Mitpo62

Westport eh? She any relation to the "rocket?"

Posted by: Chief Wiggins

I know Rocket's son is on the job, unsure if he has a daughter.

Posted by: CrazyTexan

Great....... can't wait to meet her.........................

Posted by: cchc28

senior staff instructor officer leonard mota will straighten her right out..... left..right....left..right....left..right.left foot..right...........

Posted by: CrazyTexan

Looks like the 12/10 academy got put on float today, wonder how short they are and how long it will take us to get a new date..................

Posted by: Chief Wiggins

I heard it will start in January. Fall River is sending 7 but needs to complete backgrounds and they cannot get them done by 12/10.

Posted by: NBPD

a birdie was chirpin the first week of JAN.

Posted by: redemption05

If a dept started the process on Monday 11/12/07 for 1 recruit, you think they'll have enough time to get into Plymouth?

Posted by: CrazyTexan

So what's everyone's advice then, wait out the Plymouth and hope it picks up in January, or jump to the Boylston that is already scheduled for January? I know it would be a hike, but if it is a go ?

Posted by: NBPD

I think they will both happen. I would not worry about it to much. No academy starts on the date they post online.. they always move a little later then the expected or "projected" start date.

Posted by: CrazyTexan

Thanks for the reply and advice. Plymouth is only 45 min from me whereas Boylston is a little over 2 hours from me, so for daily commute purposes alone I would rather go to Plymouth.

Posted by: NBPD

yes thats true, it's about the same distance for me as well.

Posted by: cchc28

hey texan,,, are you going for falmouth? cause if you are, i know one person from that dept that will not be going with you as planned...

Posted by: CrazyTexan

No, I am from Brewster. I hate to hear people are dropping and we haven't even started yet. We need more people, not less. lol

Posted by: sheriff2cop

I'll be going to the Plymouth Academy as well. Last I heard they had around 30 applicants. But with the holidays just around the corner, I doubt they will start until atleast mid to late January.

Posted by: cchc28

hey tex...... lets just say that he didnt drop out... he was...... let go.... kinda like someone i know that went for brewster for the 49th..........

Posted by: 94c

I think you might find that the exact opposite will be true.
People are pushing to get things done before the holidays so that they're ready to go come January.

Posted by: NBPD

Is anyone going to the practice pat this thursday?

Posted by: gio

so there are now 3 from falmouth rather than 4?

Posted by: cchc28

thats how it looks nick,, but, i wouldnt be supprised if they get one more person ready in time.. new chief is in the house now, from what i hear...

Posted by: fidelis98

The new chief is scheduled to start on the first of December, atleast thats what the Cape Cod Times put out. I also heard that they are trying to hire between 3-5 off of the last test, could be bull though.

Posted by: LTSO16

I heard there is a February academy...any clues as to where that will be held?

Posted by: CrazyTexan

I just can't seem to figure out why those types even bother showing up. Better early than after hittin the streets though I guess. Guess word travels fast about some people, eh?

Only if they sent out the cards the day before the new list was certified. If that old card is postmarked on or after the new certification date, I'd be at Civil Service first thing in the morning.

Types with convictions on their BOPS, active warrants,
open restraining order and 3 closed ones with 3 different women etc. etc.

We had a guy come in for an early interview just so we could lock him up on a warrant.

Posted by: JLT770

yikes, they actually apply? good strategy getting that guy though haha

Posted by: cchc28

94c isnt lying.. This guy from falmouth was a flat out thief!........ lol, the cape is a small place

Posted by: COto50

According to the website the academy is full.....Start date January 7, 2008

Posted by: sheriff2cop

I predicted this 2 months ago.
Some guys laughed and some guys didn't listen.

So to those I now say...

Posted by: cchc28

I saw they 50th MPOC today...... seem pretty squared away. At least no one showed up in shorts and a tee shirt!

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

Remember 50th MPOC-mouths shut, ears open, give it 110% and you'll be fine! Say hello to Senior Staff Instructor Officer Leonard Mota for me! OOOHHHRRAAHHH!

Posted by: LTSO16

Any dropouts yet? I heard that there were one or two in the first week.

Drop out of Plymouth? Are you serious?

Posted by: LTSO16

my mistake then, I guess this person might have decided to withdraw from the academy before it even began.

Too bad. Because if he waited for the last minute he may have cost someone a seat.

Hopefully that department planned ahead and had a back-up waiting in the wings ready to go.

Posted by: pahapoika

Drop out of Plymouth? Are you serious?

believe it or not it happens. mostly conflicting schedules for some of the older people with families.

but there were a couple of folks that failed the academics in my class.

not saying it's rocket science , but proves it always good to have some sort of base line requirements

50th, Best of luck. Tell Senior Staff Instructor Mota his son from the 49th says hello!! And Uncle Frank as well. Two ears and one mouth for a reason...listen more then you speak. It's a rewarding career and a ton of fun

Posted by: Mitpo62

Good luck to those starting the 50th this morning. Stand by to stand by! Enjoy your first day....

Posted by: Chief Wiggins

Hopefully SSI Mota can help the guys in Westport and straighten their recruit out!!

Posted by: Mitpo62

God Bless You Lenny Mota!

Posted by: Opie

I was quite fond of Ms. Goodick!!! Stretch it out!!

Posted by: cchc28

haha all i remember from her was her yelling, "drink the water"......
and there was something in there about stretching in the shower....

Posted by: devilcop76

It must have been nice to go to Plymouth Academy and have all these happy memories of sunshine days and easy PT runs (or speedwalks...either one). None of this was found at the MBTA Acdemy.......no fun and definitely no fluffy memories

Posted by: Mitpo62

Oh bother....here we go again with the "mine is bigger than yours" argument.

Posted by: cchc28

No fun? lol, then whats the point? besides,, you shouldnt bash someone elses academy,, cause it screams out that you were picked on constantly, and probably couldnt handle it...

OK......First of all it was meant in fun. No need to take everything so serious. Lighten up Francis. Second......can't handle the Academy? Not hardly....after Parris Island, everything else is cake.

Posted by: cchc28

fair enough! lol.....

Posted by: NBPD

Phase two begins Monday ladies and gents. 13 more to go after this week, lets keep up the good work!

Posted by: Mitpo62

One of the Taunton fellas decided to return to the fire department. Can it be the academy was too........stressful?

Posted by: NBPD

Unfortunately he did so I have heard as well..... =p

Posted by: 94c

Poor Baby...

I feel bad for the guy that was next in line.

Posted by: NBPD

They would have had to physically remove me from the academy grounds to get rid of me. I don't understand these people who go through all the bullshit of getting hired, then bail because it hurts a little bit.

Posted by: NBPD

I agree with you 100% Delta. Unfortunately the ...... in Mitpo62's reply mean a little more then what it seems.

I can only imagine, but I won't ask.

Posted by: 94c

Rumor has it he was caught playing with his hose.

Posted by: NBPD

Unfortunately I am in no position to speak about it. I apoligize, we do however have 13 weeks left after this =p

Rumor has it he was caught playing with his hose.

Posted by: cchc28

Strange things happen in the academy.. i had a girl in my class that, the evening before the final, resigned from her dept... granted, thre were some things going on behind the scenes... but jeasus... that close..

Posted by: Mitpo62

Must have been some big things going on behind those scenes....

I dont get it either. It blows my mind.

My class started with 32 and graduated 32. I think maybe because it was the late 80's; not many PD's were hiring, so everyone there wanted to be there for the right reasons and was grateful to have a job.

Posted by: DPDPO

Any word on the next start date for Plymouth. I am starting my stuff so I can get in the next one. I checked the MPTC website but no luck. I know sometimes peole hear before it gets put out there. Thanks

Same at the Boston Academy from what I hear from a recent grad. They dropped 28 recruits from their last class.(Class graduated in Dec) Academics were brutal and the PT...well there is NO walking/slacking allowed!

You don't suppose there was some cheating going on?

Posted by: Mitpo62

I saw the "ole' gang" from Plymouth today at the 5K Thomas Giunta run in Fall River. Ms. Goodick, Percy, and Officer Leonard Mota. Good gravy, Mr. DeGutis was there as well.....and he ran! Of course Officer Mota led all 42 members of the 50th MPOC. Looked good, sounded sharp! There was a great turnout there as well, in spite of the cool, damp weather. I believe there was about 1400 participants. Great cause, great race.

No, I was ahead of you guys. But I sure could hear you guys! Our class did the Marine Corps run up in the Blue Hills; one of Mota's favorites.

Ah Yes... I can remember in the early stages of the academy, hearing the groans when he pulled into site. Ah Crap it's Mota!.

By the end we were glad it was him and not two face Frank.

Posted by: Mitpo62

I thought that was three fingers Frank?!

It's over....not too bad of a ceremony. Had to start late because we were waiting on Deval. Funny thing, him showing up after trying to take details and all. He didn't say much. It's over...on to newer and better things.

Posted by: sheriff2cop

your the man O'neal...

Posted by: 50thMPOC204

The 50th made history in the Plymouth Police Academy. It was an honor to graduate with all of you today. Academy... Disssss.... missed! SIR, YES SIR!!!!

Posted by: Mitpo62

I hope those two guys from Taunton will be ready first thing Monday morning for the start of their grueling, challenging, and sometimes frightful FTO program, which will lead to sleepless nights from having to do so many reports, so soon. Good luck!

Posted by: CrazyTexan

There is only one guy from Taunton that graduated......they kicked the other guy out in like week 3

Your lucky. You don't know how close you were/ or still are, to getting laid off....

Posted by: Mitpo62

Those layoff whispers are here too. The mayor maintains that "there shall be no layoffs in my administration." However, both public safety unions were told "we cannot afford pay raises" for the next contract (read, 0, 0, and 0). "If you demand pay raises, then we will be forced to layoff" personnel. Hmmmm....this sure smells like a set up to me. Anyhoooo......yes congrats and good luck in your new 'ventures!

Posted by: 94c

There's a little birdie going around that some members of the New Braintree class are being given the option to finish the academy, without pay...

Posted by: NBPD

94c same department? I was told the day it happened, also about how close it was going to be as well.
