HANOVER - Two home break-in suspects were arrested in a swamp behind a Hanover home today when they were discovered right under the nose of a sheriff’s police dog.
Hanover police were notified shortly after 10 a.m. that a homeowner on Ledgewood Drive had chased two people from his home.
Police called the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department and asked for assistance with a police dog.
According to sheriff’s department spokeswoman Sara Lavoie, Lt. Paul Foran and his dog, Wolf, were searching the area when Wolf suddenly stopped.
After a moment, Foran realized Wolf was standing right on top of one of the suspects, who was laying in the tall reeds of the swamp.
Police say it is still being investigated as to whether the suspects, Mark Cramer, of Rensselaer, NY, and a juvenile female, whose name is not being released, took anything from the Ledgewood Drive home before they were confronted by the owner.
Hanover Police Lt. Walter Sweeney said police found a van in the neighborhood that was stolen from Nassau, N.Y. at around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Inside the van, police found some items that belonged to Cramer and the female he was with.
They were arrested and both charged with unarmed burglary, possession of burglar tools (screw drivers), larceny of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit burglary.
They were scheduled to be arraigned today at Hingham District Court.
