GREELEY, Colo. --
Two Greeley police officers were taken to the hospital and treated and released early Saturday after a roll-over accident.
The officers were responding to a call for back-up at about 1:20 a.m. when a vehicle apparently pulled out in front of them at Reservoir Road and 23rd Avenue.
The officer that was driving swerved, causing the squad car to slide and spin and ultimately hit a power pole.
The police officer who was a passenger was ejected. 7NEWS was told it was his first night on the job. Police did not say if he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Greeley Police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call them at 970-350-9600.
The fight the officers were headed to was at 10th Avenue and 15th Street. The first officers on scene witnessed a man assault another man. They attempted to make an arrest, but the suspect fled in a nearby car, nearly striking an officer as he drove away.
A Weld County deputy spotted the fleeing car moments later and started chasing him. The suspect refused to stop, but ended up crashing into a fence in the 1900 block of 6th Avenue. He then fled the area on foot.
After a short foot chase, police were able to arrest Bryant Aaron Martinez.
Martinez is being held at the Weld County Jail on $81,000 bond. He was booked on first degree criminal assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and DUI charges.
