HOUSTON --
A police officer lost a fleeing driver when he crashed into a tree early Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston police said the officer stopped a driver on Martin Luther King Boulevard Near Bellfort Street at about 2 a.m.
The driver, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest, drove away while the officer was standing next to the vehicle, police said.
Investigators said the officer jumped in his patrol car and chased the driver.
The chase ended about three minutes later when the officer slammed his patrol car into a tree on Martin Luther King Boulevard Near Long Drive.
The officer was not injured. His patrol car sustained minor damage.
The driver got away. Police said they know who he is and will apprehend him later.
