Police uncertain of Salem school scare By Tom Dalton Staff writer
SALEM - Police have not been able to substantiate a report of an attempted abduction outside a school on Wednesday.
"We always take these things seriously, especially in light of what happened in Swampscott, but as of this time" there is no further information on the alleged incident," Capt. Paul Tucker said.
On Thursday night, school parents received the following phone message from Superintendent William Cameron Jr.: "It was reported to us earlier today that after students had been dismissed from school on Wednesday ... an unknown adult male tried to lure a Salem Public Schools student into a motor vehicle. The man's attempt was unsuccessful."
The alleged incident was reported at Witchcraft Heights School, police said.
Police sent extra patrols yesterday to Witchcraft Heights and to other schools as a precaution.
On Tuesday, an 11-year-old boy in Swampscott reported a possible abduction attempt outside a school in that town. Swampscott police distributed a sketch of a suspect.
