SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) Two Springfield police officers were reminded of the dangers of their job Thursday night while trying to take two drug suspects into custody.

Police told 22News suspects are lashing out more and more at arresting officers. Alicia Stepno of Springfield said, "I looked across and I kind of saw heads and the mattresses and stuff. I just thought they were up late rearranging their house."
It wasn't spring cleaning at 132 Marion Street Thursday night, but Springfield police did accomplish some unscheduled interior decorating during a drug raid. The two men are accused of attacking the arresting officers, which worked against them. The landlord let 22News inside the third floor apartment where police seized 759 bags of heroin, packaging materials and $658 dollars. Everything from speakers to couches was ripped open to find all the drugs.
Alicia Stepno lives next door with her husband and three children. She won't let her kids play outside. Stepno said, "I don't want them to know that there are drugs next door and what's going on mom? I don't want to have to explain why they are selling drugs next door or whatever happened."
Meanwhile, Springfield Police Commissioner Edward Flynn says it is very disturbing that officers are getting more resistance while doing their duties. Flynn said, "There have been several incidences in the last few weeks---everything from domestics to drug raids where one or more people will try to fight the police or take the prisoner away." Despite the late night raid, the Stepno's still don't feel safe in their neighborhood and plan to move. All three suspects are being held in lieu of an unknown amount of cash. Their next court appearance is October 16th for a pretrial hearing
