Gardner is getting them within the week

Posted by: RodneyFarva

i don't know... less lethal yes... but there is something real satisfying about beating the snots out of someone who deserved it.

Attleboro has about ten issued to patrolman, more on the way. Have been used successfully in several situations mostly dealing with suicidal subjects armed and threatening to inflict injury to themselves or others.

I have used it three times so far, only one time (drive stun) disappointed me. The prong shots seem to work the best even on a 300lb + woman shot in the front with very little muscle mass. It still did the job we needed it to

Didn't get shot with the taser at training but eventually rode the lighting during an incident.

I think Groton has them.

Tasers are a high priority on Taunton's to do list....right behind the repairs to roads, sewer and water lines, new fire equipment, re-hab of the high school, and replacing voter chads with new 20th century technology. We'll get there.

Posted by: Pacman

Tewksbury has them as well. I attended the instructor course and saw no need to get tased. It worked on 53 people in a row, and took down a bull. I didn't need to get shot to know my sidearm was effective. Waltham is looking at them, but the start up cost seems prohibitive.

Nantucket has them

That puts in to perspective pretty good. Some departments feel like every officer should know what it feels like and know the effects. Are we going to go around tasering eachother?

Posted by: Loyal

they don't club you with a baton or shoot you during training... no need to get tased either. BTW an improved Taser has been introduced - EMD - causes all muscles to involuntarily contract - no fighting through it - puts people in the fetal position fast.

Exactly. There is nothing quite as satisfying as a "laying on of hands".

Here is a question. I don't believe that there is a training curriculum yet within MPTC Defensive Tactics for TASERS. So my question is how are departments allowing their cops to carry them and where does the liability fall. Don't get me wrong I am not against carrying them and zapping somebody. I just don't want anyone to get jammed up.

Thanks for the concern. But the law leaves it up to the Secretary of Public Safety.

We got our asses covered.

Kinda.. Only SWAT and a couple nonSWAT trainers are certified to use them. They're on the road but only when SWAT personnel are riding the gun truck..

What is the "gun truck?"

Hmm, without getting into specifics it's a marked "cruiser" assigned out of the Operations Division manned by SWAT personnel. Inside are tools used to help locate and create chaos and destruction against bad people..

i agree - getting tased for training doesnt really make much sense...i didn't like getting sprayed with the infamous OC either, that SUCKED

I think I understand what you're talking about. Our version of the "gun truck" is an actual truck, kinda like the one you saw in the movie "SWAT." They carry a lot of the same tools you're referring to, plus a lot of the M-16s, MP-5s, Benelli shotguns, etc...

Posted by: SPS5592

Hopefully you guys will be using them statewide. The use of a ECW affords the officer/deputy to employ a means of incapacitation like no other. I have used this tool 3 times this year alone with 100% affectiveness. If youve been hit with it..you know! The laser alone works on most people after they have been hit once.

Posted by: GPD927

We do have them in Gardner, and have been carrying them since January or so. I used it for the first time on 3/21, and it worked great. It saved us from getting banged up with a regular who usually goes very hard, and usually takes 2-3 officers to get cuffed. I love them, and they are an asset. There is no mess to clean up like with oc. All departments should have them!!

Posted by: CJIS

We just got one in our department. Right now its under a sort of pilot program to see if we will get more.

Posted by: Fowlplay

I'm not in MA, but we've had them for about two years, and we all had to ride the lightening to be certified by our agency. If you've ever been hit by it , you know it works. On our force continuum it falls in after loud verbal commands, even before we put our hands on you.

Our Highway Patrol has had them about a year and they light people up all the time, but they've a great deal more paperwork to deal with afterwards.

Someone else posted that if they've been hit with it before, you put that laser on them, it's like instant compliance, so true.

Posted by: pahapoika

got a brief demonstration at in-service last week and even a 1 second shot to the thigh was pretty convincing .

all the instructors that had the training on the tazer said once was enough. ( 5 seconds must really hurt ) every department should have them. especially corrections

Posted by: HEATMS

all officers showed have them, i even own the stock ticker "TASR"
