ST. ALBANS, Vt. -- A former school bus driver who allegedly had children sit in his lap as he drove has been charged with five counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.
Robert Fisher, 72, of Cambridge, Vt., pleaded innocent to the charges at his arraignment Friday in Vermont District Court for Franklin County.
A bus driver for 17 years, Fisher resigned after the end of the last school year after an earlier investigation of alleged sexual misconduct was not substantiated. School officials concluded he had engaged in "driving practices that were not safe," said Armando Vilaseca, superintendent of the school district that includes Fairfax.
A second investigation begun in July by the county's sex-crimes unit concluded he had fondled at least five children.
Fisher's lawyer, Ted Kenney, said his client was innocent.
