City man faces charges of heroin distribution
NEW BEDFORD — A 32-year-old man faces charges of selling heroin after police armed with a warrant searched his home Wednesday.
Ricardo R. Conceicao of 85 Myrtle St. was arrested and charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, subsequent offense, according to police.
The search followed an investigation by Detective Stanley Chaberek and other detectives of the Police Department's Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau, police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Silva said.
Police searched Mr. Conceicao's pockets and found several bags containing about 5 grams of suspected heroin packaged for street sale, and confiscated $243 in cash, Lt. Silva said.
Mr. Conceicao is accused of selling within a school zone because his home is within 1,000 feet of the Hayden-McFadden Elementary School, Lt. Silva said.
His girlfriend, Suzanne DaCosta, 33, also of 85 Myrtle St., was not arrested because she is apparently pregnant. Instead, she will be summonsed on a charge of possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate drug laws, Lt. Silva said.
