EXPANDED JURISDICTION MA STATE & COMMUNITY COLLEGE PD

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

This bill is now in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and would expand Massachusetts State & Community College SSPO (CH. 22C S. 63) powers to "roads and lands contigous to institutional property." It might be a good idea to contact your local Representative to request his/her support on this important issue. It would still allow the local and state police to work the paid road jobs so they may be willing to back our play.

Thanks #907

House Bill Number 1549

AN ACT TO EXPAND THE JURISDICTION POWERS FOR EMPLOYEES AT STATE AND COMMUNITY COLLEGES HOLDING SPECIAL STATE POLICE OFFICER POWERS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Chapter 22C, Section 63 of the Massachusetts General Laws is hereby amended by adding after the words “in or upon lands or structures owned, used or occupied by such college, university, or other institution or hospital” at the end of the first paragraph, the following new words “or roads and lands contiguous to institutional property.” Such expansion of jurisdiction shall not allow such officers to work paid details in this new area that would have traditionally been worked by municipal and state police officers.

MPA has let this bill get this far? someone keep us up to speed!

Anyone know what the bill number is on this one?

Since this is a proposed amendment to MGL 22C s 63, would this not also include private institutions as well as hospitals? Or is there some language I'm missing here that makes this only apply to state and community colleges, as implied by the title?

By the way, where did you find this? from the Massachusetts Legislature's website, it looks like an aging Bill that never made it out of the House.

WTF?
Isn't this House#1549? It doesn't exactly excite me much. Nor does #1548 or #1547

C 22c sec 63 covers private colleges and hospitals. So if its regarding 22c sec 63 it should include private institutions
