if the link above doesnt work here is the letter cut and pasted

Just who does Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley think he is fooling (“Top Hub cop presses DA in jurisdiction row,” Sept. 15)? His switch in investigative authority of murders occurring on MBTA property from Boston police to state police is nothing but blatant political pandering.
It’s irresponsible to remove Boston homicide detectives, who have honed their investigative skills through years of actually investigating a wide array of crimes, and rely on state troopers assigned to his office who more than likely have honed their skills by investigating traffic accidents and issuing driving citations.
Anyone with common sense can see it for what it truly is: politics over public interest. Jim Crosby, Northbridge

The guy who wrote that letter is about as informed as the U.S. Marshal's union president who claimed that Reed Hillman's experience was limited to supervising other people writing speeding tickets. I agree that Boston PD detectives should be investigating Boston homicides, but Mr. Crosby is a boob.

How dare he take those staties away from their traffic accidents and tickets!

I agree with Dane and what the other replies said (before they magically disappeared..)

Why don't we get down to the real reason for this. When Ed Davis took over Boston he looked around and saw a high number of open homicide cases and wasn't happy about it. As he did with Lowell, Davis holds the top officers in the divisions responsible for the results of the work of their men and also gives credit where it is due. He decided to replace the then commander of homicide, which judging from his reaction,Mr Conley didn't like. Davis has added more training and detectives to homicide and will hold the new boss there responsible for results. Conley, pehaps because of friendship with the old boss, or upset with any change in that unit, was critical of that personnel change and now he is doing this to "get back" at Davis in typical Boston politics fashion. What I don't think Mr. Conley understands is that Ed Davis has in the past delt with political pressures in Lowell and made it a point to use the work of his department and his good reputation with community leaders and law enforcement officers across the country to survive and in fact come out of it with a better position.

Just to be clear this wasnt posted to applaud the decision made by Conley, I think most members of the State Police would agree that this was a hot potato thrown in our laps, and a hot potato we didnt ask for. Obviously the letter throws some cheap shots at the State Police, and the writer of said letter happens to be a Northbridge Police officer. It was pointed out in an earlier post for Officer Crosby's info that the State Police have pretty extensive experience in investigating homicides, and that he should do some investigating of his own before making a fool of himself in a public forum.

You've got to be kidding me that Crosby is a COP??????

What Northbridge has never had to call CPAC ( an unattended death, for instance) ?????

What a complete knucklehead.

Does Northbridge have their own homicide unit?

Posted by: 94c

check out these stats....

I think they are more involved in Chapter 90 per capita than the MSP.

http://www.northbridgepolice.com/crimestats.htm

Posted by: mechanixman

Does Northbridge have their own K-9 too?

Posted by: GARDA

Indeed 94c, interesting stats... especially (not to change subjects, but):

*19.9% fewer arrests/summons between 2002 and 2005? What the hell?

Without being "in the know" about Northbridge PD, I hope this stat speaks more about a diminished manpower/personnel issue over those years, rather than perhaps... an administration's influence on how the patrol force takes care of business on the street? Somebody please say it ain't so?!

Those numbers remind me of another (insert own PD) agency's unofficial decree that officers should "seek alternatives to arrest when possible"... WTF!

Ugly as it may be, who can really blame Conley for his "alleged political response" to the freshman-like, Commissioner Davis' patronage-laden blunder of replacing Boston PD's homicide commander with his own, self-approved and self-appointed guy... (qualified or not, there is an understood and time-tested process for such transitions) Personalities aside, I believe Davis got what he deserved with this one.

The Knucklehead Crosby is a Grafton Cop, not Northbridge. The chief of Northbridge called the State Police to make sure they knew this guy was not a Northbridge cop. Ask any Grafton cop about this guy Crosby, 'Mensa member' phrase usually wont be mentioned.....

Being new to this site, I would've hoped to see that people actually research there information before posting it. After a little checking ( I mean about 20 seconds) I learned that Jim Crosby is NOT a Northbridge Police Officer. He is actually employed by the town of Grafton (pd).
I believe the Northbridge Police Dept deserves an apology for some undeserved slamming.

Posted by: HousingCop

What's the matter, a guy can't express his opinion in the Herald Editorial pages anymore? It just so happens that he's a cop in Grafton, or Northbridge or anywhere else in the state, so what? The man is entitled to his opinions, weather you like it or not. He may be right, he may be wrong, but he's certainly entitled to his opinions.

At least he's chosen a way to voice his opinions other than making up an annonymous screename on here and bashing the SP in numerous threads like others have done here in the past.

I've seen more slamming on this site about the SP vs. BPD or any other agency over jurisdictional issues than this mans letter. NOBODY deserves or is warranted an apology on here. Quit your crying all you Newbie Users, it was an honest mistake in mis-identifying the PD that Mr. Crosby works for.

Posted by: regnar1194

Point out in my original post where I have slammed the Northbridge Police Department, Yes thats right, there was no slam. I had words for Mr Crosby for his cheap shot at the State Police. Now to take note on another issue Mr Crosby or anyone else for that matter has the right to say anything he wants and I or anyone else for that matter have the right to respond to it.

As for my mistaken claim of Mr Crosby being a Northbridge Police officer thats my bad, no excuses for my mistake, and thats one bad for me.

As far as the Northbridge Police officers and the department as a whole, I have no beef with them and have never questioned their professionalism. I see them everyday and never fail to greet them or back them up on a stop when they are doing their job. If any of their members feel slighted as to my comments then take this post as an apology

regnar1194
Please point out in my response where I said you have slammed the Northbridge PD? All I wrote is that the original editorial writer in the Herald has the right to their opinion and that all the Newbie Users should not get an apology for ANYTHING. If you consider yourself a new user on here, then you're welcome to that opinion.
I never said you were not entitled to your opinion as well as Mr Crosby is entitled to his. All I was trying to get across is that there is no aplogy necessary or should one be issued for their opinions. HC

Posted by: regnar1194

Housing Cop, I was responding to Magnum's comment not your own

Clearly a retarded letter from Crosby. As most others stated, I also agree that BPD Homicide should be investigating all cases in Boston including MBTA property. I think the DA's Office has enough of a case load already. The Troopers are spread thin and don't need to be spread even more.

Posted by: j809

Not much more retarded then the SPAM letter that was sent out to all the Chiefs and town managers not too long ago.

What was the gist of that letter, I hadn't heard about this

evanbr33: http://www.masscops.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3989
As you can see j809 would like to start another 9-page shit slinging thread about LECs.

If you want more info (REAL info); I'd advise you to ask one of your coworkers at your barracks. Not on Masscops

Posted by: evanbr33

MM1799, you're right, I could do without another SP bashing on this thing...Thanks for the PM

Posted by: j809

Not bashing anyone, just said the letter was dumb.
