JONESBORO, Ga. --

A Clayton County police officer has been accused of trying to sexually entice minors while in his patrol car.
Clayton County Officer Casey Carmichael, 28, made his first court appearance Monday. Prosecutors asked a judge to hold Carmichael until a detention hearing because they believe he is a flight risk and a danger to the community.
Officials said Carmichael was trolling the Internet looking for young girls instead of patrolling the streets.
“He would answer calls for service and in between calls when he was not having a call to respond to, he would access the computer and chat with who he thought at the time was a young girl,” said Chief Jeff Turner with the Clayton County Police Department.
The 14-year-old girl officers said Carmichael thought he was messaging online was actually an undercover GBI agent.
Authorities said Carmichael offered the agent proof he was in law enforcement.
“Basically the officer was using a webcam and opened up the webcam and showed himself,” said Agent Sandra Putnam with the GBI.
The criminal complaint indicates Carmichael exposed himself and was in uniform at the time.
“There are occasions where he was in the car and chit-chatting with the suspected young lady and he was actually taking pictures of himself,” said Turner.
Officers said they got wind of Carmichael’s activities after he began an online conversation with a Mississippi undercover officer. When that detective found out Carmichael was a police officer, he contacted Georgia authorities. Police said an investigation ensued and Carmichael was arrested at Clayton County Police Headquarters.
“Not smart at all,” said Turner about Carmichael.
Turner said he spoke to Carmichael after he was arrested. “(I) told him I was very disappointed, I was appalled by his actions. I reassured him he was not above the law,” said Turner.
The FBI’s Safe Child Taskforce and the GBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit worked the case together. Carmichael could get a minimum of 10 years in prison if convicted.

SICK PERVERTS

Posted by: masterb183

That fact is that many perverts get into the Law enforcement field just to meet young children . They have no respect for themselves or the people they serve.

There are a LOT easier ways to be in contact with children. Considering the background and psychological testing required of law enforcement candidates in the United States, I would say that "fact" and "many" are huge overstatements.

Delta 784 ,When referring to Perverts or any scum that would do harm to children and call themselves Peace Officers, One bad apple in the ranks is one too many. I also think that the focus shouldn't be on what I believe but should be placed on the facts. If you think that a person can't pull the wool over the eyes of a test giver, then you maybe be living in a dream world. Yes there are easier ways to contact children, but what we are constantly seeing are are brother and sister officers and others with high profile jobs on the TV. I think pervert would love to be an Peace Officers. That way they could molest children but still find away, If caught, to come out smelling like roses. The next best thing for them to be is a catholic priest. A sickening thought to say the least. Also, to say that the use of words such as facts or many are " huge overstatements" is your opinion. Everyone has them.Thats why we have this Forum.
