An El Paso police cruiser was damaged early Saturday when it was in a collision with an SUV allegedly driven by an intoxicated woman, police said.
The accident occurred at midnight Friday in the 7600 block of Alameda. Police said a 26-year-old woman driving a 1992 gray Isuzu Rodeo with Chihuahua license plates entered Alameda Street from a private driveway and drove into the path of the police car, a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 30-year-old female officer from the Mission Valley Regional Command.
Police spokesman Darrel Petry said the police car collided with the front left of the SUV, causing it to spin. The police car continued into the westbound lanes of Alameda, struck a small rock wall and caught fire.
Two passengers in the SUV, a 21-year-old El Paso woman and a 34-year-old woman from Albuquerque, suffered minor injuries.
The 34-year-old woman was taken to Thomason Hospital for treatment and observation. The officer also suffered minor injuries, but a 22-year-old female passenger in the police car was not injured. Petry said the driver of the SUV, who has an El Paso address, may face charges in the collision if it is determined that alcohol was a factor.
