I noticed one of the ads at the top of this site while signing in for the Port Authority Police in NJ/NY and wondered if anyone had any information on it. I looked at the site and it appears they are having a test sometime soon as the sign up date ends Oct 5. The starting salary is a small 32,000 a year to start but apparently after 5 years it can be as much as 80,000. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

NYPD guys consider getting on PAPD like winning the lottery. There are many perks to the job beyond the base pay which is great. Lots of overtime. They can live in NY or NJ. I don't think anyone ever leaves.

Unlike Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the exam is supposed to be easy. The key is having a hook.

really? so it will be worth the $75 to take it? or would it be a waste of money because i dont have the "hook". correct me if im wrong but i saw something saying the last test offered was 3-4 years ago?

Id say in a big agency like that you should have half a chance. Its not like a small town P.D where the chief is gonna hire his son for the only position that comes up every ten years. I wonder if they take laterals.

It's worth the $75 to take it. After 5 years you can be making as much as $80,000 no problem. They do not accept NYPD officers because the NYPD withholds your employment records which the PAPD need.

I'm almost 100% positive they do not take laterals. I've heard from a lot of people that they are looking to hire around 400 new officers over the next 4 years. I believe the pool of people expected to take the test is over 40,000+ people though.

You are correct, former NYPD. They do not accept applications if you are a current NYPD is what I meant, you have to quit first.

JLT did you take the test yet?

Posted by: JLT770

yeah i took it 11/5. i thought it was easy, the hardest part was finding the parking lot they wanted us in. haha

got the results back, well a letter saying congratulations on passing the PAPD entrance exam along with 7,000 other people. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the future. so...9,000 people took it, 7,000 passed. with no scores i must say the chances are very slim of getting on.

just found out candidates have begun getting packets for employment
