FALL RIVER

AUXILIARY OFFICERS: The Fall River Police Department is currently accepting applications for the voluntary position of auxiliary police officer. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 18 and 65 and a resident of Fall River, Freetown, Somerset, Swansea or Westport.

Applicants must not have a criminal felony record and must possess a current Massachusetts driver's license, be in excellent health, physically fit, be of good moral character, a high school graduate or a have earned a general education diploma and successfully compete a thorough background investigation and interview.

Applicants must be available on weekends and must volunteer a minimum of four hours a week.

Auxiliary police officers are unpaid volunteers who assist the police with assignments issued by the chief of police. Duties and assignments include traffic control and direction at parades and processions, crime prevention and security details at charitable and community events. They also assist the city's Emergency Management director during emergencies.

Successful applicants will be required to complete the Auxiliary Police Officer Basic Training Program for recruits.
