Is this an application to take an exam or just an application for the job, I checked the website and I am still not able to figure it out b/c the last line says "on or before the date of exam." Thanks.

I sent a resume down and they said you need the application, they will not take resumes.

Maybe back in WW II, it is very plausible that a 18 y/o could have 2 years of military service (if he joined at 16). Those WW II vets are truely the greatest generation.

No, they carry.

Quoted from MGL 31, Section 58..
"No person shall be eligible to take an examination for original appointment to the position of police officer in any city or town if he will not have reached his twenty-first birthday on or before the final date for the filing of applications for such examination, as so stated."
So as long as Swansea is not Civil Circus they can hire?
Good luck fulfilling the rest of the requirements.

You must go down to the station and pick up an application. You have until next week and there is alot of stuff on the application you need signed. Then you have to take an exam at the high school then do their physical agility test. By the way you must be 21 years old to be police officer in the state of Massachusetts, because MGL states you cannot carry a gun until that age.

I thought you could carry under the badge at age 18 (chapter 41 section 98 if i remember correctly?)
However this would only apply to non-civil service town who does not require their officers to have an LTC (Both of those situations would invoke the 21+)

Provincetown (a civil service town) had its under-21 non-CS summer officers carrying "under the badge" three years ago. I don't know how it is now though.

i have a question if they are 18 yrs old and works as a part timer how do they lock up a monior in possession of alcohol if they cant have it them selfs or can they transport that on the badge too just asking

The new law states that you have to be 21 to be employed as an officer, because of the gun laws I believe... I think that applies to all cities/towns in MA. That being said, not that long ago when the age to take the exam was 19, i knew a couple guys that got on the worcester police before they could even legally buy booze. Crazy to think about

I am 19 and I am doing the reserve academy, does this mean I will be able to work in a non-civil service town as a reserve. Dont some towns have reserves that don't carry?

Alot of Aux don't carry. They are good for sending people through the Reserve academy though.
