Mexican trucks granted authority to operate in US
Reuters - 12 hours ago
By John Crawley WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration granted authority late on Thursday for long haul Mexican trucks to operate anywhere in the United States, launching a one-year pilot program that some members of Congress, ...

Let the fun begin.

Good luck to all of the truck teams !!

We have had enough damage and bodies as a result of Canadian drivers...including fatals in which Canada refused to return drivers for prosecution. Now we have Mexican trucks coming to our highways. Business, not human decency, safety concerns, patriotism or any value we cherish is now totally in control of the White House and those who support it. We will soon be, as Santa Fe actually is considering, bringing in non-citizen police officers as they will work for less.I think we may even see communities contracting out police to the lowest bidders. We are allowing them to give away our jobs, security and country for the almighty cash cow. Where are the teamsters? Their leadership is sitting back on their rumps back slapping slippery politicians while they count the little guy's money which is now in their pockets.

With each passing day, I regret just that much more ever voting for that dunce.

"The program will be reevaluated toward the end of 2008 but American officials expressed confidence in the safety protocols that Mexican carriers will have to follow."

Clearly, someone must have put something in the official's huevos rancheros!! It already slays me how many vehicles I see on the road here with Mexico license plates. Toto, I don't think we're in the United States anymore...

Of course they have strict licensing and inspection standards...right?

Currently, South/Central American trucks have to unload their contraband at a storage facility, and American trucks go get it. Now, they can just keep their cargo on board and cruiser right through the BP stations. Interdiction efforts have just been set back about 10 years.

Federal Motor Carrier Rules

Driver gets placed out of service

Federal Motor Carrier Rules

You can have all of the laws you want or need but there are thousands of drivers on the road in the USA today that
cannot read ,speak, or write the english language.
Take this from someone who knows.

This is nothing new foreign vehicles were always allowed in the US many trucks from Canada come in daily. Lets thank our politicians Demorats and Reprivatens for passing NAFTA when it was first allowed!!! I love this country!!!

meanwhile i just payed $94.00 dollars to get finger printed by Homeland Security to renew my haz-mat endorsement to deliver heating oil !

( didn't want to lose the CDL licence )

i doubt our "friends" to the south will face too much scrutiny. maybe at first , but underpaid , overworked drivers will be a breeding ground for criminals and faulty equipment

“Gee” I hope I didn’t offend you. I appreciate your experienced input. Brother Trooper/Officer I enforce Federal as well as State law. This particular law is nice because if the driver fits the violation he does not drive an 80 thousand pound truck anymore. I thought it would be good to put it out there. I get called all the time by other Police agencies about this type of activity. I assist these departments by doing an inspection and placing the driver out of service under the FMCA rule.

MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) -- A truck carrying more than 25 tons of dynamite exploded Monday in northern Mexico, killing at least 23 people and injuring more than 140, a government spokesman said.

Of the 140 injured, 30 suffered critical wounds and five were listed in extremely critical condition, said David Aguisn, spokesman for Humberto Moreira, the governor of the state of Coahuila.

Notimax, Mexico's official news agency, reported at least 30 people were killed in the blast at a factory near Monclova -- about 125 miles (200 kilometers) northwest of Monterrey.

Three Mexican reporters were among those killed, according to Notimax.

Video footage showed the burned-out, mangled shell of the truck and nearby cars damaged by the blast.

Aguisn said that there is no indication of foul play. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Under NAFTA rules things have changed and more is overlooked.

Most stops or weight station checks if the driver does not speak
english an officer that speaks the language of the driver is called.

In most instances the driver is not put out of service.

If you are putting them out of service I applaude you.

Just go into any of the truck stops off 95 in NH,VT and ME, and see how
many of the drivers are speaking english. There is more
french spoken than english.

In Jersey its spanish or arabic spoken in any of the ports.
The only time they speak english is when it comes to $$$$$$
