(WBZ)BOSTON Six men have been arrested in an investigation dubbed "Operation Trenchcoat II," in which state police officers posed as teen girls on the Internet in search of online predators.
State police officers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office posted an online ad stating that they were a 15-year-old girl. Police said the ad attracted several individuals who agreed to meet with who they believed was a 15-year-old girl for sex, adding that the men agreed to pay the girl for sex.
Matthew J. Newman, 26, of Newton; Richard F. Dawson, 42, of Westwood, and Raymond Hunt, 23, of Weymouth, were arrested in connection with the case. They each face a variety of charges including sexual contact for a fee. Newman and Dawson face charges of enticement of a minor and attempt to commit a crime to wit rape and abuse of a child.
In another part of the investigation, police posed as a 14-year-old girl online and were approached by several men in a chat room. Police said one of the men went to Brockton to meet and have sex with the girl and was arrested.
David Caduto, 31, of Weston; Peter McLaughlin Jr., 29, of Beverly, and Adam Nickerson, 24, of Providence, were arrested and charged in connection with the case.
During the investigation, James Dann, 32, of Middleboro, was arrested on suspicion that he possessed and distributed child porn on the Internet in Plymouth County.
