When going through the hiring process of the State Police, If your lucky enought to get picked, are people with CDL's and Class M endorsements looked at differently?

Oh yeah, you go to the top of the list and even bypass the interview process.

No, but I did see an internal posting a few months ago where the position required obtaining a CDL. But when first getting on it dosent count for anything. Everyone is pretty much equally worthless.

So it would help to get certain positions once on but doesn't make a difference in hiring.. Worthless is right, theres only 3 chances to take the exam then your aged out of the lineup..

Another question, What is the percentage of people hired that already have them? Its relatively easy to get a Motorcycle license but not so easy to get a Class A CDL.. I see MC Cops all the time but how many jobs in the SP require a CDL? Do you need one to be in Commercial Vehicle Enforcement?

Very few. The only vehicles I can think of is the MSP emergency command post TT unit and couple of buses at the academy.

No, CMV troopers do no have to have a CDL. Just a boatload of training in federal and state law.

On the first day of the academy tell the first Trooper you see that you have a CDL license. This will ensure that you are no longer yelled at. You will also be given special privledges that the other student troopers don't have. You will also be excused from PT. Make sure you mention it on day 1. Good luck!

love the humor..

If you're going to an Academy, you're going to need a thick skin. We can halp you with that here...

Posted by: pahapoika

was told years ago all troopers got class 1's so they could move any vehicle around.

Posted by: JLT770

that's what i thought too, especially if they had to seize a vehicle for some reason?

Posted by: Mikey682

If a vehicle that needs a driver with a special license needs to be towed/seized, a call is placed to one of the tow companies on the list. Either they send a driver, or a heavy wrecker.

Semper Fi.....before I put in my two cents, having been on both ends of the Academy....Id go back to PI 10 times before I went back to New Braintree....for a thousand different reasons....ask all the Marines, Navy Seals and others who have came and went.....
Regarding the CDL...above and beyond what Killjoy posted, you need a Class B to operate the BATmobile...the mobile breathalyzer roadblock bus...those troopers are assigned to Traffic division..and theres a TT unit that hauls some of the tracked machines and the old STOP team AAV...but Tprs at GHQ and at least one of the mechanics assigned there drive that.
