Just a very brief history on the Jeff Grossman Award and Jeff.

Jeff was the man that pushed for E9-1-1 in Massachusetts. He also was the 1st Director of the Statewide Emergency telecommunications Board or SETB. unfortunately Jeff Passed away. His family and friends decided to create the Jeff Grossman Award to be given out each year to a dispatcher or someone in the field that has contributed a lot to this profession.

This year Officer Dave Dalla Costa will receive the well thought after award. Dave has been a member with the Waltham Police Dept since 1989 and has been assigned to the Waltham 9-1-1 Dispatch Center since 1993.

Dave quickly became there dispatch instructor and is certified with APCO and Priority Dispatch as an Instructor. Dave created a in house training program for all new hires that is 5 weeks in length and covers all areas of Public Safety Communications. The Massachusetts Communications Supervisors Association and SETB used his program to create the Massachusetts Dispatcher Training Academy.

Dave has also created an impressive in-service program for his dispatchers and has offered it to any agency that would like to attend free of charge. There are dispatchers from all over Eastern Massachusetts and even some from Worcester and West that attend his in-service program.

Dave is also one of the Founders and SGT at Arms of the Massachusetts Communications Officers Association (MCOA). I am honored to be on the Executive Board of the MCOA with him.

On June 25th, 2003 at 10 AM there will be an official celebration at the Waltham 9-1-1 Center (between the Waltham PD and Fd) for dave and the Jeff Grossman Award. I encourage any and all dispatchers and PO's to attend. Because of Dave we are one step closer to be seen as professionals. Please contact Leslie Carrol at Waltham 9-1-1 if you are going to attend so she has a head count for the food and drinks.
