• Be currently employed as a permanent, F/T, full service municipal or MBTA police officer, after certification, in a position subject to Civil Service;
• Have a minimum of (3) years experience at the time of application as a police officer in a full service municipal police department in a city or town of at least 25,000 population, as specified in the 2000 U.S. Census or three years of experience as a police officer with the MBTA Police Department;
• Have successfully completed police recruit training as required by the Mass. Criminal Justice Training Council as well as all required in-service training;
• Have maintained excellent attendance and performance ratings throughout one’s entire career, without imposition of any formal discipline;
• Have and maintain permanent residence at the time of application in a town within 15 miles of Cambridge, as defined in G.L. c. 41§99A;
• Have a release from their department indicating the appointing authority approval for a lateral transfer if selected for the position of City of Cambridge Police Officer;
• Have one or more of the following special skills, certifications or assignments is preferred:

1. Bilingual in English and one other language commonly spoken in Cambridge
2. An active member of the departmental Tactical Patrol Force or Special Response Team
3. Assigned as a Sexual Assault Investigator
4. Assigned as a Field Training Officer
5. Assigned to Bicycle Patrol
6. Assigned as a Motorcycle Officer
7. Assigned as a Detective

• Have a current Massachusetts Drivers License in good standing and a current unrestricted License to Carry (LTC).
