WEST NEWBURY - A 16-year-old will be charged with reckless driving after his friend fell from a skateboard that was being pulled along by a pick-up truck and suffered serious head injuries.
Sgt. Lisa Holmes said Friday that officers were called to a medical emergency on Georgetown Road on Wednesday at 6:37 p.m. A 16-year-old male had been riding on the skateboard and holding onto a rope attached to the back of the truck as it moved, Holmes said. The youth fell from the board and struck his head on the pavement.
The accident is still under investigation. Four youths were at the scene: the driver, the victim and two other males who were also hanging onto the side of the truck, Holmes said.
The youth was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital and later flown to a Boston hospital where he remained in intensive care yesterday. Holmes said she has spoken to the youth's family and he is recovering from surgery.
"He's on the road to recovery," Holmes said.
The driver of the truck will be summonsed and cited on charces of reckless driving and of allowing a person to hang onto a motor vehicle.
