RYE, N.H. --Police in Rye (New Hampshire) say someone fired about a half-dozen shots at a home before dawn today.
No one was hurt, but investigators say they found a bullet inside the home. A vehicle parked outside also was hit.
Police say the shots were fired around 4:30 this morning on Sagamore Road. A neighbor said he saw a pickup driving slowly by the house, then heard five or six shots and saw a flash coming from the truck.
RYE, N.H -- The car and home of a union boss in Rye were fired upon in a drive-by shooting early Friday morning, police said.Several residents of Sagamore Road reported hearing the rapid shots at about 4:30 a.m."Bang, bang, bang. Really quick shots," neighbor John Belcher said.Police said bullets shattered the glass of the backseat windows of a car and made a hole in the siding of the house of William Roach, a harbormaster in Portsmouth and president of a union."It is obvious if someone was in that car or a particular room, they would have sustained serious bodily injury," Chief Kevin Walsh said.Police said they have no suspects, but they are following several leads. A neighbor reported to investigators that he saw a full-sized pickup truck moving slower than usual on the road. Police also retrieved a bullet from inside the house.Because Roach is a public employee, the attorney general's office was alerted to the investigation. Officers patrolled the area throughout the day but said it was an isolated incident.Walsh said that in the 13 years he has worked in Rye, there has never been a drive-by shooting.
