Does anyone know the lowest pay (starting rate) for municipal department full time officers in Mass? If so, how much?

Posted by: BrickCop

I'm guessing anyone of the small town PD's in the western part of the state are one step above an Assistant Night Manager at Wendy's.

The MPA maintains a catalog of police salaries in Massachusetts, although not every single department is represented.

Having worked for a few western mass P.Ds I would say brickcop is right.

I'll guess FAR western Mass. as many of the Central Mass. and the eastern side of Western Mass. Towns have really bumped up in pay the past couple years. Not too many shit paying towns out there... although Milville might by up (or rather DOWN) there in low pay.

Millville part-timers start out at 16.00 an hour and full-timers make close to 19.00. I dont think they are at the bottom.

From what I understand...
Pittsfields FT w/o college or differential hourly rate is 15.50 /hr starting

N.Adams FT is somewhere around 15 /hr as well if not less-reserves 11.00 /hr

Lanesboro FT is somewhere around 18+ an /Hr - reserves 15.00 /hr

off topic but any ideas on what a suburb of boston PD might make? the Arlington, Waltham, Watertown, Newton, etc?

Posted by: SouthSideCobras

Sterling PD F/T Patrolman starts out at $14.00 an hour.

I forget the exact amount, but I believe Dudley is one of the lowest too

14.00 an hour?! What a joke....do they make their cops have to go on welfare?

Belmont's top patrol officer pay is about $900/week without the Quinn Bill, probably on the lower side for a Boston suburb.

Not to be off topic, MA DPH, DMH, and DMR officers make $13.19/hr!!! How pathetic is that!!! They qualify for state assisted healthcare as state employees!!

some of the Western Massachusetts part time towns pay in sacks of seed, eggs and salt.............

Posted by: Foxy85

Uxbridge....oh Uxbridge.....Their full-timers make about average, 38,000 roughly to start, but the part-timers make $9.00 an hour... Uxbridge is a slow paced town, but to put on a gun and badge for $9.00 an hour while waiting on the list to make full-time?...Though you will get some guys who want the job bad enough, who will suck it up and do it....

The funny thing, Millville was minchined.... They work a much smaller area, and tend to have better equipment, training, and PAY. I know an officer working there now....He makes 17.85, and he just past his one year mark....

Fall River's starting pay is $17.77 an hour. I find the pay scales for police in this area are just a joke. Its just sad that a person who turns wrenches for a living [like myself] can make $8.00+ more an hour that people dealing with the scum of the earth 8+ hours a day.
