BROCKTON — One moment the video store clerk was preparing to leave work and head to church.
The next, he was on the floor, suffering from a skull fracture after what police believe was a would-be robber smacked him on the head.
That was four months ago and investigators say they're still no closer to identifying the teen-aged clerk's attacker.
Now, police are hoping someone will come forward with information about who the attacker was — and where he may be.
Information about the case, as well as a surveillance photo of the suspect, is now posted on a law enforcement web site, http://www.massmostwanted.com, with hopes that may spark new clues.
“We haven't heard anything about who this may be,” Detective Chris McDermott said. “It may have been a botched robbery attempt.”
The attacker, believed to between ages 17 and 21, attacked the clerk around 5:30 p.m. April 1 at the Blockbuster video store on Crescent Street.
McDermott said the clerk was walking to a break room after his shift to pick up his belongings and head to church when he was attacked.
The suspect hit the teen with what appeared to be a metal pipe and then ran out of the store, McDermott said.
Police suspect the attacker may have been trying to get into the locked combination break room/office but hit the clerk before the door was opened.
“The victim was a worker, a good kid, a church-going kid from a good family,” McDermott said. “He spent a couple of days in the hospital.”
Anyone with information about the suspect can call Brockton police at (50 941-0234. “They can remain anonymous,” McDermott said.
