No, Miami Police patrol the city of Miami. Miami-Dade County Police patrol the unincorporated areas of the County as well as city jurisdictions which have contracted to county police to provide police services. The Director of the Miami-Dade Police is also the Metropolitan Sheriff. Miami-Dade used to be a sheriff's office with an elected sheriff, but years ago they changed to a county police and now have an appointed Director.

Miami-Dade and Duval counties are the only counties in Florida who have a county police rather than a sheriff.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be a single bike cop on South Beach.....

South beach is 50/50, one half is nice beaches, shops, and tourists... the other makes Roxbury look like Santas Village. We just took a cruise out of Miami and could not believe how bad some parts of South Beach were. But a 2 minute walk.. Million $$ condos on the beach and Ferraris

That's a long haul, Miami to Orlando You could fill out alot of applications on that route!! Martin County Sheriff's Office is one of the best LEO jobs in the state.

Posted by: NegroRotary

PBC I know, I should try Orange County, or Osceolla or Kissimmee

Negro,

Orlando PD is a good department to work for. They have alot of side benefits including a pretty good pay package. The only advice that I can provide is to make sure that they are hiring when you apply. I applied there a few years ago when I was still in MA. They posted that they were accepting applications on their website, and in the initial meeting they told us that they were going through a heavy recruiting cycle. I paid for and traveled down three times, including passing the polygraph, only to receive a letter that they were frozen and they no longer had any open positions, and I had to re-apply for the next cycle. Long story short, I spent a ton of money testing for an agency who told me they were hiring, and by the time that I was done testing, they weren't hiring.
