A 20-year-old woman was arrested Sunday in Boca Raton for allegedly jumping into a car that collided with a police cruiser and faking an injury, a police report said.
Shava Shirlee-Sophia Powell, of Boynton Beach, is accused of hopping into a Toyota occupied by three women who hit a car driven by Boca Raton Police Officer Eric Genden at 1700 W. Palmetto Park Road, the Boca Raton police report said.
At the time of the 4 a.m. collision, Powell was in another car.
When firefighters arrived, Powell yelled in pain and claimed her back was hurt, the report said.
She distracted rescuers trying to treat others injured in the collision, the report added.
Powell was taken to Boca Raton Community Hospital, where doctors found no evidence of injury, the police report said.
She tried to flee the hospital when she found out police were called in, the report said.
Catasha Adams, the driver of Toyota that Powell jumped into, told police Powell wanted to use the accident for a lawsuit against the Police Department, the report said.
Powell was charged with preventing or obstructing a firefighter in the performance of their duty.
She was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on $3,000 bond Sunday.
The police report didn't make it clear if Powell knew the three women in the Toyota.
Genden suffered minor cuts and bruises in the collision, police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Kelly said.
It could not be determined how badly the others in the crash were injured.
