I am citizen who just discovered this website. I noted that someone posted a news article in April 2007 about the California child psychiatrist named Dr.William Ayres who had been arrested for molesting young boys sent to him for counseling. I have a strong interest in this case: I am the person who first alerted the San Mateo,CA police about Dr. Ayres in 2002 after a friend of mine told me that Ayres had molested him as a kid. I found many victims and got them to come forward to the police. The San Francisco Chronicle talked about some of my efforts in a story in April.
Two weeks ago, the courts, saying that the evidence was strong, ordered that a trial date be set.
I am posting here because this story has a Massachussetts twist. Before he moved to California, Dr. Ayres worked at a place for troubled kids called Judge Bake Guidance Center in Boston from 1959-63. This information has yet to be mentioned in the press. No one seems to know why he moved clear across the country. We were wondering if something happened in Mass. As you know, priests have been known to move from state to state if they encountered trouble. I would love to hear from anyone who could shed some light on this mystery or had any dealings with kids who went to Judge Baker. I know it was a long time ago, but you never know. You can email me through this site.

Hey good job!
Although I would caution anyone from e-mailing a person just because they say "hey look what I did".
A real name, real e-mail and contact info can go a long way towards legitimizing your request, and even then why not just tell them to contact the police directly?

I thought of that after I posted. My name is Victoria Balfour. The Chronicle article that talks about my efforts in the case is called "Case Against Psychiatrist Took Years to Assemble."I would have posted the link but because I am a new poster, I was not able to do so. But you can Google it. The story talks about how I am a writer who volunteered her investigative and advocacy skills to make this case happen.

The criminal investigation is in California, and the reason I am interested is that no one has bothered to look at his days in Massachusetts. I was the person who four years ago first told the California police that Ayres originally worked in Boston. They had no idea about his background there. And four years before the arrest, I posted on Craigsist and the Boston Globe, asking for people who went to Judge Baker to contact me. I did hear from people, but they were not patients of Dr. Ayres.
As you know, if anyone was harmed by Dr. Ayres in Mass., they would be well out of statute. But I also think that there is a stop the clock law there. I believe that there have been cases in which priests who moved out of state after molestation allegations were brought back and prosecuted.
I have been in on this case from the beginning, and am still looking for victims and info. I know there's a lot out there about this guy we don't know in Massachusetts and I feel that someone has got to get to the bottom of it. But as I said, that is not the focus of the California PD. But you can also contact Detective Rick Decker who is head of the investigation there. He is doing a great job: 650-522-7654.
And please call me at work if you need verification.

I would post the San Francisco Chronicle article that discusses my efforts to get the San Mateo,Californa police to investigate, but as a newbie I am not permitted to post links. You can Google the story "Case Against Psychiatrist Took Years to Assemble.""
The police in California are not focused on Ayres' years in Mass (1959-63) because if there were any victims from then they wouldn't be in statute.
However, I am interested in finding out anything about Ayres' years there. I have already tracked down doctors who trained with him during the 1960s who refute certain claims he has made about his training. I turned it over to the police before his arrest and they said it was useful to their case. They didn't even know Ayres worked in Mass until I told them I gave them all background on this.
I have found some people who were treated as kids at Judge Baker in the 1960s, but not by Ayres. I very much want to hear from anyone who could help. Additionally, I believe that Mass has a stop the clock law concerning molesters. If it is found they moved out of state to avoid molestation allegations, then I think they can be prosecuted for these long ago crimes.
Ayres did not give a straight answer about why he left Mass for California in his deposition for a boy's molestation civil suit against him. We know molestors move from state to state. I just want to know what the circumstances were around Ayres leaving Mass.
