VSP Update

Well... this was the week i've been waiting for to see if i get hired by the VSP... and looks like I will continue to wait. The LT said my background report had a couple very minor "reservations" he needed to look into and since its so close to the deadline for them to get their rosters in, I am being defered to the summer academy. The LT told the Sgt. to tell me not to get my hopes down since I look like an excellent candidate, he justs needs more time to check into a few things and I will know If they will give me a roster spot for the summer academy next month. Needless to say, i'm a little dissapointed but the Sgt. said this is common with people who are so close to the start of the next academy and that I will more than likley get an offical offer. On the bright side, I will be able to finish my AS degree, only 2 more classes, and get myself in better shape for the academy. Kind of discouraging but hey, what can ya do. At least I don't have to worry about freezing my balls off!

Good luck, Hope you get your slot.

You are looking at this with the right attitude...this is an OPPORUNITY. Finish up your degree, because once you get to the academy and on the road, you are not going to have loads of free time to be studying or taking classes. And you can NEVER be in good enough shape. Plus, there is nothing worse than being woken up at 4:00am to go running in -8 degree weather in the middle of February. The summer academy will be way better.

Good luck with the rest of the process for VSP. Last friday night, I was on a K9 track for an armed robbery subject in Cornish, NH, and the track led across the river into Windsor, VT. So, I got to work with two troopers from the VSP who were both highly competent and professional. I think you are looking into a squared away department.

McNeice, do you know what their minor reservations are? If they ask you about these issues, just have your answers worked out. Good Luck!

The Sgt. I spoke with wasn't aware exactly what the reservations were, but he said the LT did mention they were minor and I shouldn't worry. The LT will be calling me to discuss them after the holiday. I have an idea what they are and it no big deal so it shouldn't be an issue.

God Bless Ya EMC....If You Didnt Get Hired For MSP, and Didnt Get Hired for NHSP, VSP is a Great Alternative....

Just Kidding; VSP Is An Excellent Department to Get Hired Buy. Good Luck Pal, I know You'll Do Just Fine There....

Their small reservations were that you didn't love sheep the way they do. You'll learn though, week 8, it's a 40hr class, Special Sexual Assault Investigations in Vermont!!

I spoke with the Sgt. again and found out that the "reservation" was a medication i am on. I need to be evaluated by their doctor and cleared. They said its standard procedure with anyone who is on any type of med. My primary care doc has given statements saying i am suitable for police work to 3 different departments but i guess they need their doc to say it. The Sgt. said that once i get the ok from the doc, I will more than likley get an offer for the summer academy. In the meantime... i'm just going to keep applying elsewhere and get my AS degree in May.

Medication you say! Is it the kind that if you miss it....you go bananas ........We can see it now....He was a good trooper and loved his sainted one, she never burnt the rice before but she burnt the rice today. He lunged at her and pounced on her like a young puma and with the ginsu blade he stabbed her ONCE, TWICE..........THRICE.

Na, I'd be fine without it. It was primarily for insomnia, lets leave it at that. I'm going to wean off it this winter and stop taking it.

Well, if you end up working nights in Vermont, I don't think sleeping will be an issue. However, some of those Moose and Deer snore loudly....

Rumor that I had heard:

VSP has no night shift. I mean no patrolling. Just two troopers sitting at each station. Anyone know if its true?

VSP's evening shift is 1800-0200. You are home at 0200, and then you are on call til 0430. I don't beleive there are Troopers at the station... if dispatch gets a call, you respond from home. Minimum of 4 hours of time and a half. The Trooper i went on a ride along with says it happens a lot and he's usually back home within 30 min, and gets 4 hours of OT. The day shift is on call from 0430 to when ever they start their shift. I would imagine there must be some occasions where there are Troopers out during all hours, especially on the interstate.
