PLATTE, Mo. — A Missouri man faces a year in prison after pleading guilty to placing a hidden camera in his 16-year-old stepdaughter's bedroom, MyFOXKC.com reports. Charles L. McCardie, 47, pleaded guilty Thursday in Platte County Circuit Court to a misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy. Judge Owens Lee Hull then sentenced McCardie to the maximum one year in prison.
The former chairman of the Farley Board of Trustees had used the camera hidden in a smoke detector to watch the girl without her knowledge, Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd said. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped a child pornography charge. The victim's mother reported to the Platte County Sheriff's Department on June 26, 2006, that her daughter had found a camera hidden in the smoke detector. Investigators found a wireless camera and wireless receivers in the downstairs living room and office of the house. McCardie originally denied knowledge of the cameras, saying they might have been installed during a weekend when the family was out of town.
