A TEENAGE boy who beat a 15-year-old to death with a baseball bat in a fight following a youth league match was jailed for 11 years, justice officials said. The boy, who was 13 years old at the time of the attack in April 2005, was found guilty by a juvenile court of second degree murder earlier this year.
Prosecutors accused him of clubbing to death 15-year-old Jeremy Rourke following a baseball game in Palmdale, 80 kilometers north of Los Angeles.
Rourke had allegedly teased the youngster for losing the match and had shoved him twice before his younger attacker grabbed a baseball bat and struck him with it in the knee and head.
The jailed boy's parents insisted that their son was acting in self-defence and didn't deserve to be so harshly punished.
"He's a good kid that was defending himself,'' the boy's father said.
