My captian and I were talking about planned future improvements here at Wentworth and he is pushing for some sort of touchscreen dispatch console. He didn't really know much about it but it sounds interesting. (Plus a wireless headset and re-assignment of channels, including a new frequency for the department). He said this may not happen until the next fiscal year (we just bought a charger to replace our 2nd unit- a 98 vic).
Anybody actually use a touchscreen dispatch system? Is this a standalone unit or a computer integrated system like I saw on the Motorola website (the DS2500 or something similar to that)? How is the performance verus the typical Zetron or Motorola console?
On the subject of Zetron, our 4010 console is in definite need of updating. The wiring below the desk is a disaster and its only a matter of time before the thing bursts into flames. lol.

We utilize touch screens for our radios which are Centracom Elites. We absolutely love them. They have been in constant operation for 2 years with no technical problems as of yet. The touch screen is also on a swivel arm that you can adjust to whatever position is right for you.
We also have Vesta phones and I would love to convert them to touch screen as well, but our Director did not do that 2 years ago when we moved into our new building. The less mice I have to use the better.

WIT - My agency also uses the Centracom Elite for our radio panel. The touchscreens are great. Not sure how your comm center is set up but if you are planning on going this way I would suggest having atleast 2 workstations for a little redundany. No matter how great they work, they are only computers and do tend to have their issues.

Our comm center isnt really all that big... and i doubt the powers that be will spend the money for two of these systems, whatever they end up doing with. I guess we will just have to wait and see...
Thanks for the imput guys and looking foreward to more opinions and observations. Pictures would be great too.

I loved the touchscreen, EXCEPT when it stuck open because of fingerprints, etc and then you have an open mic, UGH!! We would all scramble to find which screen was stuck!!

Here is a pic off our website. She is blocking the screen you want to look at since she's touching it, but you get the idea.
