Just as an FYI to all those concerned. It appears as if the next SSPO academy is on Nov 5, 2007. It will be held in Tyngsboro.

This is the latest and greatest from our Chief.

Why the change to Tyngsboro?

Posted by: sidge99

from what we were told it's because BC is sending 10 people or there abouts, and the SP are trying to accomadate them. BC has a satelite campus in Tyngsboro.

They originally looked at the boston campus but it was noy acceptable for an academy.

If you are hired by a college campus, they will put you through the SSPO academy correct? Or do they hire candidates who have already gone through the SSPO academy?

Posted by: sidge99

it all depends upon the school. some dont because of the cost

JLT...it does depend on the campus. Some campuses send all there officers eventually, even if they can get warranted (based on if you have a CJ degree and the Reserve Academy, there is a list on how to get warranted on the Mass State Police website) Some campuses will only hire those that have already been through the SSPO Academy. Good luck!

I have a Sociology degree with "CJ certification". According to the Quinn Bill website my degree does not get accreditation. You also mentioned a reserve academy, I'm assuming that it's different than a municipal academy? or if you have the municipal academy will that count as well? I probably asked too many questions that people will get upset that i didn't search for, so now ill check out the MSP site for some answers.

Tyngsboro, huh? Wow. quite a change. I don't think I knew that BC sends their officers to the SSPO... do they carry?

Posted by: Edmizer1

BC used to send their officers to the full-time academy. They had a ton of people leave in the past few years just after graduating from the academy. Some I heard didn't even stay 1 day. They kept job offers secret until graduation. BC is probably fed up and going th eSSPO route. I know they were thinking about it.

I believe that it was BU that wanted to host the class in Boston for the specials that they are seeking for the new bio lab facility. Could this be the class that we're talking about ? As far as BC making the switch to the SSPO academy, than this is the first that I have heard of it. Not that I'm an expert on BCPD or anything.

Girl Cop, BC does carry, they have since I could remeber.

sorry guys.. yes BU.

the latest news we have is Nov 5th it starts. M-W-F in Tyngsboro and Tue - Thur in New braintree. Very interesting.

Good luck to all those who are going

I find it hard to believe that they will not hold the SSPO in New Braintree. I dont think that the State Police Academy staff is going to bend for anyone. The academy has plenty of room for any recruit to stay and sleep. I could be wrong but it does not make sense that the State police are going to change after 19 SSPO classes.

So does this mean they dont have to live at the training site????

Cut The S#@T thats the who agony of being training by the MSP in my opinion.

You can make me do push ups
You can make me do sit ups
You can haze me
You can make me run extra miles
You can scream 1 inch from my face
You can make me solute you and call you sir yes sir
You can call me a turd from a whale laying on the bed of the ocean
You can dope slap me
You can throw me in the mud
You can spray mace in my face
You can make me do push ups on my knuckles on asphalt filled with glass
You can throw my rack out the hallway and clothes out the window

But with all that it was living in Siberia (New Braintree) that was the hardest.

Irish...SSPOs aren't required to stay like the RTTs are. It is a choice...after 1600 hours you are free to leave.

You are so right about it being f****** cold in New Braintree....OMG!!!!

Good luck to all that do go to the 19th SSPO!!! OOHRAH!!!
