Just wondering if Reserve/Intermittent is the same as Part-Time/Intermittent. Also I was wondering if anyone can shout out some info on what the academy is like such as how long, is it the same as full time academy where as you might have to pay for it and when the latest one started. Thanks

The R/I, P/I are used interchangably as far as academies go. Reserve/Intermittent Police Academy is the actual name for the academy class, and Permanent/Intermittent is the civil circus title for part time officers. Its the same academy. It is generally held 2 or 3 nights a week and Saturdays at multiple locations thoughout the state for about 3 months, give or take. It is not like the full time academy in that there is no yelling, running, PT, and not nearly as intensive. Mostly classroom with some DT, Baton, etc. As for paying for it, it depends on the Chief that sponsors you, as you still need to be sponsored by a department. Its usually a prerequisite to getting hired part time anywhere. All in all, its not a bad start.

Last I heard, firearms = yes, EVOC = no.

We did not have firearms or Evoc in the 28th Boylston Reserver/Intermittent Academy last summer.

We had all the classroom, Baton / OC certificates, handcuffing, First Responder/CPR and edged weapon and ground defense.
