BROOKFIELD— Steven J. Fernstrom is no longer a police officer in town, Police Chief Ross B. Ackerman confirmed yesterday.
Chief Ackerman declined to provide details about Mr. Fernstrom’s departure and would not disclose how long he had been a Brookfield officer.
“It is a personnel matter,” the chief said. “He is no any longer with the Police Department.”
Contacted yesterday, Mr. Fernstrom, 25, of Paxton, said, “I really can’t comment. I wish I could.” Mr. Fernstrom said he was a full-time officer.
An official in the town treasurer’s office said yesterday Mr. Fernstrom was employed from Oct. 6 until Aug. 2, but did not disclose how much he was earning, saying he would need to check with the selectmen’s office.
James Allen, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, referred questions on the matter to Chief Ackerman.

I heard that the Boob chief has hired a relative to send to the police acadmey and needed to open a spot, and this is why Steve was fired. Only hear say but someone should look into this and bring this up with the ethics commision if true.

Why would he need to fire him. As a chief he can send anyone to the academy.

This chiefs track record is once your first year is up and he does not like you he lets you go. As for just sending his relative to the academy and not firing Steve, Steve was supposed to go to the next academy for the department but his year was approaching. SOme of this is hear say so take it for what is worth.

I know too many good cops that have been screwed by this guy and too bad theres one more to add to this list. I feel bad for all that apply with this PD. Listen to our warnings, if Ackerman is the Chief, DO NOT APPLY HERE!! His career was started with and still consists of lies. The department is a joke and it's all because of the Chief. I feel bad for the few who still work there because they do have some good officers, just horrible brass.
