POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - A Broward County sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed early Friday in the second shooting of a deputy in that county this week.
The shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. and Deputy Chris Reyka, 51, was brought to a hospital, where he died, The Miami Herald reported.
The shooting happened near a Walgreens in Pompano Beach, north of Miami.
Reyka had seen two cars parked behind the store and became suspicious. As he got out of his patrol car, he was ambushed and shot, a sheriff’s office spokesman said.
Police were still searching for the suspect.
Friday’s shooting came just days after another deputy, Maury Hernandez, was shot in the head Monday after a traffic stop. A suspect has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in that shooting. The deputy was hospitalized in critical condition.
