I really should head on out there and test. Never had a run in with the law, never drank, did drugs, kept friends with honorable people. Now I just have to convince the fiance that it is worth the move for a better life.

It's always better to put yourself in a position to say "no" to them than to sit home and wonder "what if".
Most out of state departments have a lengthy process so your better half doesn't have to start packing today. Take the test, score well, and weigh all of your options after getting their information. Good luck!

Good luck, Sometimes you have to make the Jump. LVPD has a lot of Crime but what town doesn't. Keep at it.

Ever since I was out there years ago, the city got a hold on me. I love the weather, the outburst in growth, and the plethora of activites to do for recreation. I know the department is one of the best paid with some of the best chances for advancement, and also alot of activity on the street. I know it would be tough to leave everyone, but I don't hear any towns/cities here in MA knocking my door down. I will take my NH tests and see what comes of them and I will also start the LVMPD application process as well.

yeah i agree, i have absolutely nothing to lose then possibly a week of horrible work and i believe it would be well worth it having never been west of Chicago. ive had a few regrets in my past about not doing thigns, so i know to take these opportunities when they come at me.

You should do it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, plus Vegas is a great place to visit, especially if you haven't been there before.

Both Sgt Grunt and I took the chance by going west and we are both very happy that we did. If you don't like it you can always go back to Mass and start over again.

You know, back around 1981, when Proposition 2 1/2 was first passed there was talk of my entire academy class getting laid off from my department. Supposedly they had the notices all typed out and ready to go. At the time Becaue of all the layoffs and threatened layoffs in departments all over MA, Florida was recruiting heavily up here.
I sent a resume down to Tampa, Fl. on a Monday. The following Monday my phone rang and it was a Captain from TPD calling me, trying to get me to come down and work there. Well, my fiancee didn't want to move so far away from her family, and I was reluctant to move because my parents were elderly at the time, and all my friends were here, so I passed on the job in Tampa.
Layoffs were averted in my department, and here I've been, ever since. My fiancee became my first ex-wife, my parents ended up passing away eventually, and most of my friends off the job have drifted away, and some have passed on as well.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you've got an opportunity to make a move- make it! Don't put it off-time passes much too quickly. All of a sudden you've got five or so years invested in a MA department, and a soon to be ex- spouse, and you're locked in- you can't afford to leave then.
