KETCHUM, Idaho — A couple that turned to a Ketchum police officer to help find their misplaced car containing their dogs last summer is showing thanks by donating $250,000 to the Sun Valley city.
The donation was announced this week by Ketchum Police Chief Cory Lyman, who added the couple has ties to the city but wish to remain anonymous.
"They said they wanted to do something for the department," Lyman said.
It all began in June 2006 when the couple asked Officer Tony Atienza for help in finding their car and were concerned about their dogs locked inside.
Lyman said it's unclear how long the search lasted, but said the dogs were in good condition.
The couple sent a "thank you" note a week later, but hinted they may want to show their appreciation in other ways, Lyman said.
They did just that this week, sending the city a $250,000 stock donation that can be converted later to cash for the city's general fund, according to City Attorney Ben Worst.
