I'm a Las Vegas Metro police officer and I was born and raised in Massachusetts.Have you done a search of this site?I've posted quite a bit of info on Metro and the hiring process. If you want to be a Cop, you have to utilize some investigative skills. Now is the time to start.
Yes LVMPD is a great department to work for,one of the best in the nation. We have a very stringent, but very fair and pretty quick hiring process.Pay and benefits are great.Training and equipment is top notch and it is very busy here.I plan to post an "unofficial" LVMPD recruiting post here soon. Here is a recent article in the US Today about how tough our academy and field training program is.Our police academy is currently 25 weeks long and our field training program is 19 weeks long.
We are currently in a big hiring push right now.The academy staff told me that they are planning for 4 academy classes per year with 80 police recruits in each class for the next 10 years.Las Vegas is the fastest growing major city in America and has been so since the end of the Second World War.On average approximatley 5,000 people per month move here. There's already nearly 2 Million residents here and another 40 million plus tourists a year that visit here, more than any other place on Earth. We are in definite need of more police officers. We have about 2,700 police officers right now to patrol Las Vegas and rural Clark County which is an area of more than 8,000 square miles, just slightly larger than the state of New Jersey.

I'm with Metro as well and just like SGT said; it's a great department with a tough but fair process. Plenty of action and opportunities.
