Before everyone jumps on me to suggest I search previous threads...I did and was unable to locate what I was looking for. I'm not saying its not there...I'm simply saying I didnt see it. With that said...

Has anyone noted any language in HR218 regarding part time officers and their inclusion/preclusion under 218? I know a "qualified officer" is defined below, and it makes no mention of FT/PT status, but just curious if anyone has read or seen anything that does make mention of it...

A Qu
alified active law enforcement officer. is defined as an employee of a government agency

who:

.
is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation,

prosecution or the incarceration of any person for any violation of law;

.
has statutory powers of arrest;

.
is authorized by the agency to carry a firearm;

.
is not the subject of any disciplinary action by the agency;

.
meets the standards, if any, established by the agency which require the employee to

regularly qualify in the use of a firearm;

.
is not under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating or hallucinatory drug or

substance; and

.
is not prohibited by Federal law from possessing a firearm.

Your either a Cop or your not a Cop!Just kidding!I know local police officers, state police officers,deputy sheriffs, as well as federal agents/police officers who are carrying a weapon that they are qualified with along with their badge and ID can carry anywhere in the US.I'm not sure how the law addresses "other" law enforcement officers such as Corrections Officers,Baliffs,Deputy District Attorneys,Parole and Probation officers,Campus police officers,Military Police,etc.I'm not disrespecting these other officers,but some departments may only authorize officers to carry firearms on duty or not at all,such as is the case with court officers and some Campus police officers in Massachusetts.If a court officer in Massachusetts who doesn't carry a firearm on duty visits another state carrying a firearm on his CCW..does it fall under HR218.I would say No.
