An anti-immigration backlash has taken hold among Republicans in the Capitol, led in some cases by the staunchest supporters - Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina - of the failed Senate bill derided by many as amnesty.

12 million illegal immigrants are you kidding me try like 25 million plus, there is 12 million in California and Texas alone!!!

That's exactly it. Even with their new found sense of justice there is a majority Democrat Congress to contend with. A big shift in power is needed in 08 for any "hardline" immigration reform to take place.
