(WBZ) Two young men are dead after a horrific car crash in Dartmouth early Saturday morning.
According to state police, Jose Beniquez, 18, of New Bedford was driving on Route 195 east around 2:45 a.m. when he lost control of the car he was driving, struck a guardrail and then crashed into several trees. He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
18-year-old Angel Figueroa of New Bedford, who was riding in the back of the car, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.
The third victim in the car crash, Hector Figueroa, 26, of New Bedford was in the passenger seat when the accident occurred. According to police, he suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment. Figueroa was wearing a seatbelt, police say.
Officials say it appears speed may have been a factor in the deadly crash.
All three lanes and the breakdown lane were shut down for three hours while crews cleaned up and investigated the scene.
