(AP) PORTLAND, Maine Police say a New Hampshire man posed as a nurse at a children's camp in Maine this summer.

Mark Hamel, 36, of Laconia was charged during the weekend with theft for allegedly preparing to skip out on a $2,000 motel bill at the Sebago Lodge. During the investigation, police say they found that Hamel had posed as a nurse at Camp Sebago, a Salvation Army camp, for nearly two months.

Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion said Hamel attended to children and administered medicine even though he didn't have a nursing license. The sheriff said ther is no indication any children were harmed. He said he intends to charge Dion with acquiring drugs by deception and endangering the welfare of a child and practicing nursing without a license.

Police say Hamel was in Maine in violation of his probation in New Hampshire on a theft conviction.
