HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A toddler was killed Sunday morning when her father backed over her in front of the family's home.
Investigators said 18-month-old Monica Bischel wandered outside her home on Deer Trace Drive and behind a Chevrolet Suburban driven by her father, Timothy Bischel.
Police said Bischel, 40, did not realize the child was behind the vehicle and struck his daughter, pulling her beneath the sport utility vehicle.
I saw the policemen looking under the car and I just knew what had happened," said neighbor Ronda Schmid.
Monica, who neighbors said was the youngest of eight children, was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital, authorities said.
Police said drugs or alcohol were not a factor, and neighbors said the devout Catholic family was likely preparing to attend Mass when the child was killed.
"You just wouldn't wish that on anyone -- I mean what a terrible, terrible accident," said neighbor Rita Ollerdisse. "That would be anyone's worst nightmare."
That is so tragic...I feel so bad for the family. It was an unfortunate accident, that could have been avoided, but how many people do it every year.
