STOUGHTON— A Brockton man is being held on $10,000 bail after he allegedly threatened to strike a police officer with his Mercury Mountaineer on Friday on Washington Street.
Jose Miranda, 36, of 361 Crescent St., Apt. 1, was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court on charges of assault to murder, reckless driving, negligent driving, driving after license suspension and giving a false name to police.
Judge John Canavan ordered Miranda held on $10,000 bail at the Norfolk County House of Correction in Dedham.
Miranda is scheduled to appear at a probable cause hearing Aug. 29.
Police arrested Miranda at 1:35 p.m. Friday after police officer John Bonney witnessed Miranda allegedly sideswipe another vehicle on Washington Street.
The police incident report indicated Miranda then pushed the second vehicle into the middle of the road.
Bonney said he activated his cruiser lights, then got out of his vehicle and went to check on the condition of the occupants of the second vehicle.
As he was doing so, he heard Miranda racing the engine of his vehicle in an apparent attempt to flee the scene.
The report said Bonney felt he was in imminent danger and drew his service pistol, ordering Miranda to shut off the engine and step out of the vehicle.
Miranda raced the engine again, but finally complied with the officer's demands, the report stated.
Bonney was not hurt in the incident, Lt. Robert Devine said.
