MILTON - A 15-month old girl who was not in a safety seat was seriously injured when the pickup truck her young mother was driving struck a pole, police said.
The child was in the front seat. An unoccupied safety seat was in the Dodge Dakota’s rear seat at the time of the crash Sunday.
The mother told officers that she had placed a seat belt around the child, police said.
The child suffered a head injury and was taken unconscious to Boston Medical Center, where her condition today was listed as serious.
Tatyanna McGuire, 20, of Boston’s Grove Hall section, told police that she fell asleep before hitting the pole at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Randolph Avenue and Pleasant Street. McGuire, who was not injured, was charged with failing to use a child safety seat, driving to endanger and failing to stay in marked lanes.
The Department of Social Services was also notified, police said.
Further proof that there should be a licensing process before people are allowed to procreate.
