I was just wondering how old most of you are, seems like every time i went for an interview or for the test etc. i was much younger than most the guys. But i am the youngest possible age, turned 19 on the day of the exam JUST MADE IT lol

Posted by: mavs41

man, you guys that old you dont want to say lol. I was just wondering if my young age would put me at a disadvantage, but i dont see myself as ur usualy 19 yr old, im a big guy and quite mature.

You gotta work a looooong way before retirement. One downside.

Posted by: pahapoika

well , actually you can do 20 years and be out the gate with 50% plus medical benefits.

19 is young , but then again so are the inmates coming in the system now.

i want to do corrections for a few years, till i have my degree atleast then move on to police officer and hopefully eventually the state police

You are going to meet people in the Academy aged 19 to 52 (no kidding, there was a guy in my class who was 52---and he made it). I'd say the average age is around 25ish, though. Everybody grows up wanting to be a Trooper or what have you, but nobody grows up wanting to be a CO. A lot of people have done other things in life and were either laid off or fed up with lousy pay and benefits until they applied to the DOC. I'd say everyone 25 and under in the Academy wants to gain law enforcement experience and everyone older than that is just trying to support themselves or a family. Maturity and people skills are a definite plus in this job. If you are 19, just pay attention to the people who know what they are doing and don't get caught up in the BS or the drama. When I was 19, I was in the Army and that advice worked for me and I'm 32 now. Good luck.

i attended military school in HS and from what im reading and have heard, the politics, and all thatother BS is basically the same as military school. You have those ppl that gain rank and get favored for being rich, havin a well known family, or "friends" then you have those that just stuck to the program and made their way up by being a good cadet. Im def open to the option of becoming and staying a CO, thanks for the advice

Wonderful use of the english language. Bravo! You're going places!

This is not the way to start on MassCops

yes becuz writting on a forum casually, and half assed is a real sign of intellegence and of how successful one will be. Just like i highly doubt you speak proper english all day every day, even in normal convos with a frnd. get a life dude.

Uh, OK. Just keep in mind, you are posting on a forum for police officers, asking about employment from people who may someday be on your interview panel.

I am well aware of that, thank you. If my acceptance into any sort of training for a job was based on a forum and my grammer on it, then I think I would have to turn it down.

Posted by: skimass

Not only "grammer," but obviously spelling. When writing reports that are read by judges, lawyers, insurance companies and upper brass you want to show at least an acceptable grasp of the english language. Please note that attitude can sway a panel, so kick any arrogance to the curb kid. This is just some helpful insight for the future, end of discussion. Thanks for the laugh.

you guys read into and take this forum stuff alittle too seriously, you think i write "becuz" or not use correct punctuation when writting a report in school, or filling out any sort of paperwork. Lighten up alittle bit people, im not trying to make enemies but c'mon, we dont speak like robots in a casual setting or even at the work place/on the job, so why is it an issue to write casually, the internet has its own language entirely people, thats just the way it goes. Im not trying to impress anyone, or write for a judge, or panel of CO's interviewing me. If the world has changed and everyone writes and peaks with the utmost percision, then looks like im going to have to pay alittle closer attention in my english comp courses.

reports are big in any department. i bet we kill a small forest every year with the D.O.C.

wait till someone reads a report out loud in a room full of people that you wrote 5 years ago.

got grammer ?
