Nicole Richie pleaded guilty Friday to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to four days in jail by a judge who said she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a freeway.
A pregnant Nicole Richie checked into jail Thursday to serve a 90-hour sentence for driving under the influence of drugs. She was arrested in December after California Highway Patrol officers found her parked car turned in the wrong direction on a freeway, authorities said. The reality show star entered a county jail for women in this Los Angeles suburb shortly after 3 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Johnie Jones said. It's the same facility that housed her "The Simple Life" co-star Paris Hilton for nearly three weeks after she was convicted of driving on a suspended license while on probation for an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Nicole Richie Free After 82 Minutes In Jail
Reality Show Star Was Sentenced To 90 Hours On DUI
LYNWOOD, Calif. -- California authorities said a pregnant Nicole Richie checked into jail Thursday to serve a 90-hour sentence for driving under the influence of drugs.
The reality show star, who checked into jail in this Los Angeles suburb at 3:15 p.m., was released at 4:37 p.m. "based on her sentence and federal guidelines," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Maribel Rizo said without elaborating.
When asked whether Richie, who is four months pregnant, spent her brief sentence in a jail cell, Rizo replied: "I have no further comment." Under a federal court mandate to manage jail overcrowding, arrestees sentenced to 30 days or less for a nonviolent offense are usually released within 12 hours, the sheriff's department said in a statement.
Under the guidelines, Richie was "treated in the same manner as other inmates with a similar sentence," the statement said.
Richie, 25, was originally sentenced to 96 hours in jail, but that was reduced to 90 hours because of time served when she was arrested.
Richie was jailed in December after officers found her parked car turned in the wrong direction on a freeway.
The reality show star entered the same suburban Los Angeles jail that housed "The Simple Life" co-star Paris Hilton. Hilton spent nearly three weeks there after she was convicted of driving on a suspended license while on probation for an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
