Apparently the union for the State Police has announced that the attempted merger between the T cops and State Police is dead...At least for this year anyway. Does anyone else know anymore?

I don't believe it was ever alive. It's just a pipe dream to help MBTA officers get through the day......

It was never going anywhere. Even the "supporters" of the bill in the Legislature thought it was foolish.

I heard the State Police run the show in Massachusetts. Is that true? I'm a college student trying to get on the top department. Are the sheriffs like state troopers?

No one "runs the show" in Massachusetts. In other states, the sheriff is considered the chief law enforcement officer in the county, but sheriff's departments in Massachusetts have no patrol law enforcement function, so that's not the case here.

Troll.

If you're going to Troll, you have to make it less obvious...come on now!

The only reason why I ask is because I saw a sheriff at an accident scene the other day on Route 95 (like I saw in other states when I was in the military). A classmate of mine is also applying for the Middlesex Sheriff's Marine Patrol so obviously they do have patrol functions. Just looking for info for getting on the best department - didn't mean to upset the apple cart. P.S. What's a troll and does anyone know when the next State Police exam is?
