Hopkinton - A police officer has been suspended for six months for"various rule infractions," none of which were criminal in nature, according to a press release issued yesterday by the Board of Selectmen.

Selectmen handed down that punishment to Officer Thomas Lemon after they held two hearings last month to review his conduct at the request of Police Chief Tom Irvin.

"We met on two occasions and spent numerous hours reviewing the case on its merits," said Selectman Brian Herr when contacted by phone yesterday.

Herr declined comment on specifics of Lemon's suspension.

The press release did not specify what departmental rules Lemon had violated, but did say that during his suspension Lemon would address "personal issues that he believes have prevented him from fulfilling his duties as a member of the police department."

"Out of respect for the privacy of the officer and his family, and in compliance with certain legal confidentiality requirements, the town will not be disclosing the nature of any such personal issues or related remedial actions," the statement from selectmen said.

As part of the suspension agreement, Lemon will also be required to pass a "fitness of duty" examination, the release said.

According to the release, selectmen have asked that members of the Police Department not to make any comments to the press on the matter.

Legal confidentiality what laws is this for a public employee?

6 months sounds like he is suffering from PTSD hope he fully recovers.
